puppeteers.JPG (16761 bytes) Rainbow Puppet Productions is always interested in meeting talented puppeteers, vocal talent, and puppetmakers. We are currently looking for the following:

Part Time Puppeteers

Part time puppeteers are needed to help with Rainbow's 200 performances a year. We provide the training.

Paid Per Show

Puppeteers are contractors, not employees. They are paid per performance and per rehearsal. While most shows require four puppeteers, we train more puppeteers to allow flexibility. In other words, you don't have to do all 200 performances in a given year. We generally schedule way in advance but do need to know your availability to handle last minute requests.

Love of performing a must!

This is a great part time opportunity for artistically driven people. Even if you've never operated a puppet before, previous experience in dance or acting would be plus. A good sense of rhythm is essential. Some of our most successful puppeteers have been military spouses who are used to multi-tasking.

It's not all play!

Puppeteer must have a good driving record be able to drive our 15 passenger tour van. They will help with loading and unloading or equipment. Set up for a show takes under an hour. Striking and re-packing the van generally takes 30 minutes.

Most programs are performed within two hour's driving distance from our home base in Hampton, Virginia. For these local performances, the puppeteer must be available to arrive at the home base as early 7:00 am in order to drive to location and set up. On these days, the last performance is generally over at 3:30 PM.

See the country!

In addition to local shows, we do several tours a year. In the past, we've performed in places like Tampa, Florida; Chicago, Illinois; the beaches of North Carolina; and the Grand Opera in Delaware. These tours are arranged well in advance. Rainbow pays all travel fees, individual hotel rooms, and meals for these trips.
